Exclusive Interview

Jan 26, 2012

The TOR-Talk Crew sits down with BioWare Community Manager of Star Wars: The Old Republic…Mr. Stephen Reid! There’s a lot of information to discuss with the Community Manager with so many topics of intrigue, controversy, and future content that has been unveiled. The TOR Community can now see why Server Groups were implemented, BioWare is questioned for recent nerfs (including Cybertech & Bio-Chem), we receive a verbal response on the source(s) to Ilum’s controversial past week, and we get an exclusive reveal to what is coming to SW:TOR!

What we learned from the interview…

  • Confirmation that Same-Faction vs. Same-Faction gameplay will be in the upcoming Warzone. (Like Huttball)
  • The UI Customization in the “Coming to TOR” Video was just a glimpse of what the Dev Team is working on.
  • Mods and Macros aren’t off the table and may be implemented in the future and UI customization remains one of BioWare’s highest priorities.
  • Confirmation that the “Legacy System” will carry over specific races between the two factions. (NEW Race & Class Combinations)
  • Character Copies will be available to the PTS in the future so players can test the game on their own toons.
  • Today Bug Fixing is currently BioWare’s main focus on SW:TOR with a number of Devs still developing much upcoming content.
  • On the agenda tweaks and changes will be coming to Crew Skills and the “GTN” (Galactic Trade Network).
  • Guild Ships remain on the table of discussion with BioWare Developers, however, no guarantee a “guild space/area” will be implemented as a guild ship…guild halls and guild housing have also been discussed.
  • The Guild Headquarters that was on the forums in the past will be returning and it will be better. Along with that BioWare is considering other potential elements seen from other MMOs to be implemented on SWTOR.com in the future. Maybe an armory?!

We hope you enjoy the show! Sit back, relax, and jump to lightspeed with the TOR-Talk Crew. Also keep in mind follow-up answers on questions discussed in the show will be coming to this specific post VERY SOON!

Shown below is the “Coming to TOR” Video that was discussed much in this episode!

  1. Great news of future plans for transfer’s to the P.T.S, but it seemed as though S.R was trying to convince himself of the forum changes rather than convincing the cast.

Also great news about the legacy system, buuuuuuut I’m not sure this is the best move by B.W at this stage of the system, cross faction character would of been better left until much later, for now they should of focused on other content like newer races……but I guess they are doing it backwards.

And it was interesting to hear him talk about ilum and ability delays….Thank You B.W for sorting that one.

    Great interview!!

  2. awesome..

Thanks for doing the podcast, guys. You and Stephen mentioned updates … any new comments on those things he was going to look into?

  5. I can’t believe that you guys didn’t discuss more about the issues with OPS hardmode and nightmare mode bugs and issues. These are the things that seriously affect end-game and what 50s have to do.

Secondly, a little more should have been discussed as to possibly how they’re doing Q&A with releasing patches that are actually fixing bugs. Example: Warzone / Flashpoint daily not actually counting.

    • BioWare is already aware of the Warzones/ Flashpoints not being accounted for player dailies.

Also BioWare is aware of the bugs in the Operations, one of our most recent patches, 1.1.0b included the following fixes:

1)Implemented optimizations to improve performance on Republic and Imperial Fleets.

2)Significantly improved the delay when activating player abilities, particularly when in lower framerate situations. This allows for improved ability responsiveness in hectic combat situations.

3)Operations will no longer allow more than 16 Operations Group members to enter concurrently.

4)In Karagga’s Palace, G4-B3 Heavy Fabricator will no longer respawn more than once if players have not defeated Karagga.

5)Fixed an exploit that would allow players to repeatedly loot the chest after defeating Jarg and Sorno in Karagga’s Palace.

6)Fixed an issue that could cause graphical inconsistencies, which most often manifested as random screen “flickering.”
